Privacy policy

HowFoundUs ("the App") is a Shopify app made by Moose Media LLC ("we"). It shows merchants' shoppers a short question on the order Thank you and Order status pages, "How did you find us?", and shows the merchant the answers. This policy explains what data the App handles when a merchant installs it and when shoppers answer.

Data we collect

From merchants: store information from Shopify, such as the store's domain, name, languages and settings, and the access Shopify grants the App.

From shoppers who answer: the answer they choose, any optional text they type (such as what they asked an AI assistant or where they heard about the store), the language and page, and order information needed to link the answer to its order, such as the order number, date, total and currency, and Shopify's summary of the visit that led to the order (for example the referring site and campaign). The App does not collect shoppers' names, email addresses, phone numbers or addresses, and removes contact details that shoppers type into free text.

How we use it

We use this data only to provide the App: to show the merchant their answers and results, to add each answer to its order as a tag and order fields in the merchant's store, and to keep the App working and secure. We do not sell data and do not use shoppers' answers for advertising.

Sharing

Answers are shown only to the merchant whose store they came from. We use service providers to run the App: hosting (Hetzner, in the EU), Shopify, and Cloudflare (network and cookie-free page statistics on this website). They process data only on our instructions.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited to the people who run the App, and backups are encrypted.

Retention and deletion

We keep data while the App is installed. When a merchant uninstalls the App, the store's data is deleted within 30 days after Shopify's deletion request. We answer Shopify's privacy requests: a shopper's answers are deleted or provided to the merchant on request. Answers already written to the merchant's orders as tags and fields stay in the merchant's Shopify store, under the merchant's control.

Cookies and statistics on this website

This website uses cookie-free page statistics via Cloudflare Web Analytics. When you click an Install button, we set one first-party cookie with a random ID, so we can count which page led to an install. It holds no personal details.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data. Shoppers should contact the store where they ordered; merchants and anyone else can contact us.
